What happens if I send less crypto than the swap quote required
You will lose the funds you sent. The swap will not execute, and the exchange will not return your crypto.

Status: waiting for your deposit
You send from your own wallet straight to the exchanger — nothing to connect, no account, and you stay on this page throughout. Rates are indicative until a swap is opened.
The swap is carried out by an independent exchanger and the deposit address above is theirs. basedbratt.xyz never holds, receives or controls your funds, has no key to that address, and earns a referral commission. Opening a swap sends your receiving address, IP, browser and timezone to the exchanger for their compliance checks; we store none of it. Check their terms, fees and country restrictions before sending anything.
This is not a mistake the system forgives. Here is why.
How the swap process works
When you request a swap quote, the exchange locks in a specific amount of cryptocurrency it expects to receive. That amount is calculated from the current exchange rate, network fees, and the exchange's own spread. The quote is time-limited - usually a few minutes - but the fixed amount remains the condition for the swap to proceed.
The exchange’s software watches the blockchain for an incoming transaction that matches that exact amount, or a very narrow range around it. If you send less, the software sees a mismatch. It has no mechanism to adjust the trade to fit the smaller deposit. It does not process a partial swap. It simply marks the deposit as invalid for that swap order.
What happens to your money
The exchange holds the underpaid deposit in a system wallet. It does not automatically refund it. Most exchanges have a manual recovery process, but it is not guaranteed, and it is not fast. You will need to contact support, provide the transaction ID, the swap order ID, and the wallet address you sent from. Even then, the exchange may charge a recovery fee, often a flat amount or a percentage of the deposit. Some exchanges do not recover underpayments at all.
The key point: the exchange has no incentive to help you. Your mistake created extra work. They can treat the deposit as abandoned or as a donation to their operational fund. Many terms of service explicitly state that underpayments are not refundable.
Why the system does not adjust
Some users assume the exchange should simply process a smaller swap. That would require the exchange to recalculate the trade at the current market rate, adjust the output, and handle the changed network fees. This is technically possible, but exchanges do not implement it for two reasons.
First, it would introduce price risk. Between the time you requested the quote and the time the underpayment arrives, the market moves. The exchange locked a rate based on the intended amount. A smaller amount would need a different rate. The exchange would have to eat any unfavorable shift.
Second, it would be a fraud vector. A user could send slightly less than the quote, claim a partial refund, and effectively get a free option on the price move. If the rate went in their favor, they profit. If it went against them, they demand a refund. Exchanges close that loophole by simply failing the swap.
The recovery path
If you underpay, your first step is to check the exchange's status page for the swap order. It will show "failed" or "expired." Do not send more funds to "top up" the underpayment - the system will treat the second deposit as a separate, unrelated transaction, and both will be lost.
Contact support with all relevant information. Be prepared for a long wait, sometimes weeks. Do not expect a full refund. The exchange will deduct any fees they incurred (network costs, manual review time) before returning what remains.
This page is part of a larger guide: "What a failed swap leaves behind and how to recover it." That hub page covers the full spectrum of failure modes and what you can realistically reclaim. If you are dealing with an underpayment, read that page next to understand the broader recovery landscape.
How to avoid it
Double-check the exact amount the quote requires, including any decimals. Copy the entire number, do not round. If the quote says 0.05000 BTC, sending 0.04999 BTC is a failure. Use the exchange's deposit address and amount fields exactly as given. If you are unsure, test with a tiny amount first - but understand that the test itself may trigger a failed swap.
The honest answer is short because the outcome is simple: you lose the difference, and recovery is uncertain. There is no hidden mechanism that saves you. The only reliable protection is sending the exact amount.
